Moo Duk Kwan® School Proudly Remembers Robert C. Sohn, Dan Bon 6037

Black-Ribbon3THE WORLD MOO DUK KWAN® PROUDLY REMEMBERS….

As one of my original instructors, it is only fitting that this memorial honor one of the New York Pioneers of Tang Soo Do (Soo Bahk Do) Moo Duk Kwan.

2012-01-27 20.45.16On the left, a photo of Mr. Robert C. Sohn, Dan Bon #6037, Founder of Five Towns Karate Center, Lawrence, New York.  This dojang once held the distinction of being one of the oldest Moo Duk Kwan Dojangs in New York City.

Mr. Sohn was in the mid sixties an executive official of the New York Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan, a member of the Korean Soo Bahk Do Association in Korea.  Mr. Sohn achieved his Sam Dan from Master Ahn, Kyung Won, from Cincinnati, Ohio.  Mr. Sohn went on to be an accomplished T'ai Chi Master and sold his interest in the dojang to Mr. Michael Masley, Jr., a Sam Dan student of Mr. Sohn.

Mr. Masley would eventually sell his dojang to Daniel Bannard Sa Bom Nim and Daniel Segarra Sa bom Nim. The present studio near the original location is now owned and operated by Daniel Segarra, Sa Bom Nim, and is now called Warrior-Scholar Academies.

dr r sohn and tina sohnMr. Sohn and his late wife, Tina Sohn became well known authors and he became Founder and Chairman of The New Center College and The Wholistic Health Center in Syosset, L.I.  AMMA Therapy® was founded and developed by Tina Sohn, co-founder of The Wholistic Health Center. Tina Sohn was born into one of the “800 Families” which constitute the traditional ruling classes of Korea.

mediative dr sohnMy memories of the training sessions at Five Towns as a young Cho Dan forever left an unsatisified hunger to learn Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan, and I shall never forget those hard Sunday morning workouts, I truly miss them.  I can only humbly thank those who pointed me in the right direction and Mr. Sohn was one of them.  Thank you, Sa Bom Nim.

dr r sohnThis is how I will remember Mr. Sohn.   May you… Rest In Peace.
